Target Information
Fibrinogen is a protein found in the blood that helps form clots. It is made by the liver and is important for clotting. When tissue or vascular injury occurs, it is enzymatically converted by thrombin into fibrin, which then forms a fibrin-based blood clot. These clots primarily serve to occlude blood vessels and stop bleeding. Additionally, inflammation and tissue damage can affect fibrinogen levels. In cows, low levels of fibrinogen can be a sign of liver disease or terminal illness.
