Target Information

Canid alphaherpesvirus 1 (CaHV-1), previously known as Canine herpesvirus (CHV), belongs to the Herpesviridae family and is particularly notorious for causing a deadly hemorrhagic disease in puppies, as well as wild Canidae, under two to three weeks old. Transmission occurs to puppies during birth through the birth canal and through contact with infected oral and nasal secretions from the mother or other infected dogs, but it is not airborne.
