Target Information

Cryptosporidium, often referred to as crypto, is an apicomplexan genus of alveolates known as parasites that can lead to respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, collectively termed cryptosporidiosis. This condition mainly results in watery diarrhea, known as intestinal cryptosporidiosis, and can sometimes include a persistent cough, referred to as respiratory cryptosporidiosis. Among pigs and wild boars, C. suis is one of the predominant species, primarily causing subclinical infections.
