Target Information
Hemoglobin alpha 1, also known as alpha-globin 1, is a protein subunit that is a crucial component of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the iron-containing protein found in red blood cells that is responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. Goats switch their haemoglobins during development in a manner similar to humans and are therefore a useful model system for studying the control of haemoglobin synthesis. The alpha hemoglobin subunit has been shown to interact with the beta hemoglobin subunit (HBB).
