Target Information

Ferritin is a globular protein found in nearly all living organisms. It is the primary intracellular storage protein for iron. Ferritin stores iron in a safe, non-toxic form and releases it when the body needs it. Ferritin is a universal intracellular protein that stores and releases iron in a controlled manner. Serum ferritin provides a good index of hepatic and spleen iron and can be used to assess iron storage in horses.
