Target Information

Cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) is a key cell cycle regulator that, in complex with cyclin D, phosphorylates the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (pRb), leading to the release of E2F transcription factors. This action allows the cell to move from the G1 phase into the S phase, where DNA replication occurs. The activity of CDK4 is tightly controlled by the cell's internal checkpoints, which ensure that the cell is ready to proceed through the cycle. Dysregulation of CDK4 activity has been implicated in various cancers due to its role in cell cycle progression. Overexpression of CDK4 or loss of function in the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors can result in uncontrolled cell proliferation.
