Target Information
Canine ERCC1, or excision repair cross-complementation group 1, is a vital enzyme involved in the nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway, which is essential for repairing DNA damage caused by ultraviolet light and other mutagens. This protein plays a critical role in the incising of the damaged DNA strand, a key step in the removal of DNA lesions such as cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers and (6-4) photoproducts. Deficiency in ERCC1 is associated with conditions like xeroderma pigmentosum, a syndrome characterized by extreme sensitivity to sunlight and a high incidence of skin cancer.
