Target Information
Trypsin is a serine protease located in the first part of the small intestine that initiates the digestion of protein molecules by breaking long chains of amino acids into smaller pieces. Produced by the pancreas as an inactive precursor called trypsinogen. Upon reaching the small intestine, trypsinogen is activated by another enzyme, enterokinase, into its active form, trypsin. It plays a critical role in the isolation of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus.
