Target Information
Equine somatotropin, also known as growth hormone (GH), is a key regulator of growth and development in horses. It is produced by the anterior pituitary gland and is responsible for the growth of most body tissues through its effects on cell proliferation and protein synthesis. GH also has metabolic effects, including increasing protein synthesis, plasma insulin and glucose concentrations, fatty acid mobilization, and utilization of fatty acids as an energy source. It plays a significant role in ovarian function, follicular growth, and steroidogenesis, making it an important regulator of female reproduction in mammals. Additionally, equine GH (eGH) has been shown to increase the serum concentrations of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in horses , which is a key mediator of GH's effects on growth and development.
