Target Information

Lyme borreliosis, a tick-transmitted bacterial disease, affects humans and several animals, such as dogs, horses, and potentially cats. This illness is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, belonging to the spirochete class within the Borrelia genus. One mechanism by which B. burgdorferi evades the immune system is through antigenic variation of the variable major protein (VMP)-like sequence (Vls) E lipoprotein.
