Target Information

Shigella is a genus of Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-spore-forming, nonmotile, rod-shaped bacteria that is genetically nested within Escherichia. It is a leading cause of bacterial diarrhea worldwide. Shigella induces disease primarily in primates and is the causative agent of human shigellosis, but it does not affect other mammals in the same manner.
