Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), also known as Transmissible gastroenteritis coronavirus, is a type of coronavirus that targets pigs. TGEV invades the host cell by attaching to the APN receptor as an enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus. It belongs to the genus Alphacoronavirus, under the subgenus Tegacovirus, and is classified as the species Alphacoronavirus 1. Pigs infected with this virus experience impaired food digestion and often succumb to dehydration.
