Target Information

Canine IL-6, or interleukin-6, is a multifunctional cytokine involved in various activities such as immune response, cell proliferation, and inflammation. It is widely associated with numerous health conditions in dogs. Studies suggest that IL-6 can be a prognostic marker in canine critical illness, aid in diagnosing hydrocephalus, and play a significant role in the inflammation process during urinary tract infections. It may also be implicated in the etiology of blindness in dogs with pituitary-dependent hypercortisolism. Moreover, elevated IL-6 levels seem to correlate with the severity of canine systemic inflammatory response syndrome and sepsis. However, no association was found between IL-6 variants and periodontal disease in dogs. Despite its controversial role in different diseases, canine IL-6 is located in the dog's extracellular region and extracellular space, and is essential in the functioning of the canine immune system.
