Target Information
Hemagglutinin binds to sialic acid-containing receptors on the cell surface, facilitating the attachment of the virus particle to the cell. This protein is instrumental in defining host range and virulence. Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is caused by infection with Type A avian influenza viruses. There are numerous subtypes of these viruses, including H1N1, H7N9, and H5N1, with H5, H7, and H9 being recognized as the most pathogenic strains.
