Experiments in animal cell biology often focus on a single type of animal cell and are performed on isolated cell populations rather than heterogeneous cell mixtures. This approach greatly simplifies the complexity of the experiments. BioVenic has mastered a variety of cell separation technologies to isolate target cells from fresh animal tissues or organs as well as body fluids, minimizing interference from other cell types in the sample. We enable our customers to accurately attribute effects and responses observed in scientific studies to specific cell types, helping them to effectively solve scientific problems.

Background

Animal cell separation refers to the process of dispersing animal tissue into a cell suspension and then isolating target cells from the suspension. It is also commonly referred to as cell sorting. Cell sorting is the process of isolating one or more specific cell groups from a heterogeneous mixture of cells. The isolation process is not only performed before primary culture. Sometimes the process of isolating and purifying cells involves primary culture and subculture. It often relies heavily on the culture process to achieve the goal of cell isolation and purification. Animal cell isolation allows molecular biological analysis of individual cell types and expansion of specific cell types of interest for animal disease modeling, veterinary drug development, or animal cell therapy research applications.

Animal Cell Isolation Services

BioVenic offers a range of cell separation and purification techniques for freshly isolated cell mixtures from animal tissues. These methods include density gradient centrifugation technology, fluorescence activated cell sorting, immunodensity cell separation, and immunomagnetic cell sorting to meet the needs of a wide range of scientific research projects.

BioVenic also offers one-stop solutions for various types of animal cell isolation:

  • Density Gradient Centrifugation

Density gradient centrifugation technologies are traditional and well established. BioVenic uses specialized test tubes to implement a more efficient and stable gradient centrifugation method. This method rapidly layers density gradient media to prevent mixing of the layers, facilitates easy harvesting of target cells and ensures stable delivery results.

  • Fluorescence-activated Cell Sorting

Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) technology is a state-of-the-art solution for sorting heterogeneous cell mixtures using flow cytometry and fluorescent probes. BioVenic uses a technology that binds fluorophore-labelled antibodies to epitopes on specific antigens on target cells in a single cell suspension. It uses a flow cytometer to concentrate the labeled cell suspension into a uniform flow of single cells. Then we convert the generated photon signal into a proportional number of electron pulses. This process causes the droplets to deflect into the collection tube or fall through the charge into the waste chamber, thereby achieving target cell separation.

  • Immunodensity Cell Isolation

BioVenic has introduced an immunodensity cell separation service using a combination of antibody-based labeling and density gradient centrifugation. This service is specifically designed for animal blood samples. Antibodies are added to whole blood samples to label unwanted cells and cross-link them to red blood cells. During centrifugation, the unwanted cells are pelleted together with the red blood cells, while the target cells remain in a layer above the density medium. BioVenic's immunodensity cell separation technology is easily integrated into established density gradient centrifugation protocols and can be used to isolate specific cell subpopulations directly from animal whole blood samples.

  • Immunomagnetic Cell Sorting

The immunomagnetic cell sorting service is a more advanced and efficient all-in-one solution than FACS and is the preferred method for separating common cell types. BioVenic uses magnetic particles to separate target cells from heterogeneous mixtures. We are continuously improving the binding of magnetic particles to specific cell surface proteins on target cells using antibodies, enzymes, lectins, or streptavidin, thereby increasing the efficiency of cell separation.
