Target Information
Canine checkpoint kinase 2 (CHK2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a critical role in the DNA damage response and cell cycle checkpoint control. It is activated in response to DNA damage and is involved in the G1/S and G2/M cell cycle checkpoints, preventing cells with damaged DNA from entering the cell cycle. CHK2 phosphorylates and inactivates CDC25A, leading to the inhibition of cyclin E-CDK2 complexes and preventing G1/S transition. Additionally, CHK2 targets the tumor suppressor p53, contributing to the regulation of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In dogs, CHK2 may serve as a therapeutic target for diseases associated with DNA damage and cancer, highlighting its importance in maintaining genomic stability and cellular homeostasis.
