Target Information
Canine Pyruvate Dehydrogenase E1 Component Subunit Alpha (PDHA1) is a critical subunit of the pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) complex, a nuclear-encoded mitochondrial multienzyme complex. It catalyzes the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA, linking glycolysis to the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. This subunit contains the active site for the E1 enzyme and is essential for the complex's function. Mutations in PDHA1 are associated with metabolic disorders such as pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency and X-linked Leigh syndrome. In canines, this protein is highly conserved and plays a key role in energy metabolism.
