Target Information
Porcine N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor (NSF) is a hexameric ATPase that plays a crucial role in cellular membrane fusion processes. As a member of the AAA+ protein family, NSF is tasked with disassembling SNARE complexes after membrane fusion, which is essential for the recycling of SNARE proteins and the maintenance of membrane trafficking within the cell. In pigs, NSF is particularly important for processes such as vesicular transport, neurotransmitter release at the synaptic cleft, and cell growth. The enzyme's activity is regulated by soluble NSF attachment proteins (SNAPs), which facilitate the binding of NSF to SNARE complexes. NSF uses the energy from ATP hydrolysis to disassemble these complexes, allowing for the recycling of SNARE proteins and the continuation of vesicular transport.
