Target Information

Porcine septin 9 is a member of the septin family of proteins, which are essential for various cellular processes, including cytokinesis, cell membrane remodeling, and the maintenance of genomic stability. As a cytoskeletal GTPase, septin 9 plays a crucial role in the final separation of daughter cells during cell division and is involved in the development of tumors. In pigs, septin 9 has been studied for its potential as a biomarker for early-stage colorectal cancer (CRC). A novel dual-target Septin9 methylation assay (ColonUSK) has been developed to improve the detection of early-stage CRC and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia. This assay simultaneously evaluates two CpG-rich subregions in the promoter of the Septin9 gene, demonstrating increased sensitivity and specificity for CRC detection compared to assays targeting a single CpG-rich subregion.
