Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) (EC 1.1.1.42) and (EC 1.1.1.41) is an enzyme that catalyses the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to produce alpha-ketoglutarate (α-ketoglutarate) and CO2. This is a two-step process involving oxidation of isocitrate (a secondary alcohol) to oxalosuccinate (a ketone), followed by decarboxylation of the beta carboxyl group to the ketone to form alpha-ketoglutarate. In cattle, serum isocitrate dehydrogenase appears to be a useful adjunct to the usual complement of serum chemistries used for clinical diagnosis.
