Target Information
The bovine SPZ1 gene encodes spermatogenic leucine zipper protein 1. This gene encodes a bHLH zipper transcription factor that functions in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling pathway. Because of its role in upregulating cell proliferation and tumourigenesis, this gene may serve as a target for Ras-induced tumour treatments. This protein is primarily expressed during embryonic developmental stages, including in stem cells and early gastrulation stages. However, it shows testis-specific expression in the germ line and in somatic cells (Sertoli and Leydig cells) in the adult.
