Target Information
Transmembrane Protein 126A (TMEM126A) is a mitochondrial transmembrane protein encoded by the TMEM126A gene in cattle. TMEM126A is a multi-domain protein found within the mitochondrial membrane. Despite its unknown function, it plays a critical role in cellular processes. It plays a role in the assembly of the first enzyme of the respiratory chain, complex I. A nonsense mutation in the TMEM126A gene has been linked to optic atrophy, a condition affecting the optic nerve.
