Target Information
Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a gastrointestinal hormone secreted by endocrine cells in the upper part of the small intestine. Its main functions include promoting pancreatic enzyme secretion, regulating gallbladder contraction, and inhibiting gastric emptying. Cholecystokinin is encoded by the CCK gene in chickens. CCK is synthesized and secreted by enteroendocrine cells in the duodenum. Its presence triggers the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder. CCK also acts as a hunger suppressant. It is widely distributed in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system and regulates a number of physiological functions by activating its receptors.
