Target Information

Type II collagen (COL2) is a major protein in articular cartilage and a potential autoantigen. Type II collagen is formed by homotrimers of collagen, type II, alpha 1 chains. It makes up 50% of all protein in cartilage and 85-90% of collagen in articular cartilage (the cartilage covering joint surfaces). Chicken COL2 shows interesting possibilities for the treatment of autoimmune diseases by inducing oral tolerance.
