Target Information
Estriol (E3), also spelled oestriol, is a type of estrogen that is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is one of the three main estrogens in the body, along with estrone and estradiol. Compared to estradiol, both estriol and estrone have far weaker activity as estrogens. Estriol is a relatively weak estrogen. Estriol is an agonist of the estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ, but it is less potent than estradiol. It has mixed agonist-antagonist (partial agonist) activity when used alone, but in the presence of estradiol, it becomes antiestrogenic. It can help in cats for hormone replacement.
