Target Information
Alpha-lactalbumin forms the regulatory subunit of the lactose synthase (LS) heterodimer. Together with beta 1,4-galactosyltransferase (beta4Gal-T1) (the catalytic component), it enables LS to produce lactose by transferring galactose moieties to glucose. Alpha-Lactalbumin is encoded by the LALBA gene in goats. It is one of the milk whey proteins. In goat, the α-lactalbumin gene (LALBA) is located on chromosome 5.
