Target Information
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is a hormone that stimulates the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland. This tropic peptide hormone is produced and secreted by GnRH neurons located in the hypothalamus. Research has shown that GnRH release can also be effected by circadian rhythms. Because hamsters have such a strong response to changes in day length, they are very useful in GnRH research. Previous research has shown an increase in GnRH mRNA levels in the brains of male Syrian hamsters during puberty.
