Target Information
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced by gonadotropic cells in the anterior pituitary gland, with its production regulated by gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. In females, LH triggers ovulation, ensuring timed reproduction during optimal breeding periods. In hamsters, luteinizing hormone (LH) has distinct species-specific roles, especially concerning their seasonal breeding. In males, LH stimulates Leydig cells to produce testosterone, essential for spermatogenesis and reproductive behavior, which is tightly linked to seasonal cues. Research has shown that the ovaries of 2-week-old hamsters secrete the estrogen required to initiate cyclic LH release.
