Target Information
Hamster Putative Phospholipase B-like 2 is a host-cell protein (HCP) impurity identified in therapeutic monoclonal antibodies produced using Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells. Putative Phospholipase B-like 2 (PLBD2) is predicted to possess phospholipase activity and be involved in the phospholipid catabolic process. It is found in extracellular exosomes. PLBD2 has been proposed as a residual host cell protein responsible for degrading PS20 in a drug formulation. Initial studies proposed PLBD2 as a polysorbate-degrading enzyme in drug formulations. However, subsequent genetic knock-out and immuno-depletion experiments showed no reduction in polysorbate degradation, contradicting this hypothesis.
