It is known to upregulate following avian influenza virus (AIV) infection in specific pathogen-free chickens, indicating its involvement in antiviral defense mechanisms. The pre-immune state induced by chIFN-γ can generate an antiviral response against influenza virus, inhibiting the replication of viral RNA and reducing the infectious virus load in chicken embryo fibroblasts. Furthermore, chIFN-γ stimulates the expression of type I IFNs and IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs), enhancing the overall antiviral state against influenza virus infection.
