Target Information
Porcine pulmonary surfactant-associated protein D (pSP-D) is a collectin protein that plays a vital role in the innate immune system of the lungs in pigs. It is involved in recognizing, opsonizing, and promoting the phagocytosis and clearance of invading infectious pathogens, as well as modulating inflammatory responses. pSP-D is synthesized by alveolar type II pneumocytes and exists in various oligomeric forms, with dodecamers and higher-order oligomers being the most active for lectin-mediated functions. This protein is also implicated in the regulation of surfactant lipid homeostasis and has potential therapeutic applications, particularly in the context of pulmonary diseases.
