Target Information

Canine alpha tubulin 8 (TUBA8) is a member of the alpha tubulin protein family, which heterodimerize with beta tubulins to form microtubules, essential for maintaining cell morphology and regulating intracellular transport, mitosis, and cell migration. This protein is particularly biased in expression in the heart and testis of dogs, suggesting its importance in these tissues. Mutations in tubulin genes, including TUBA8, have been associated with brain malformations and neurological disorders in dogs, such as epilepsy, highlighting the role of TUBA8 in neuronal function. As a target, TUBA8 is significant for understanding the structural and functional aspects of microtubules in canine health and disease, particularly in conditions related to the central nervous system and muscle function.
