Target Information
Canine ALDH1L1, also known as 10-formyltetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase, is an enzyme involved in folate metabolism and has been identified as a potential tumor suppressor. It is commonly downregulated in human cancers and plays a role in regulating cellular proliferation and metabolism. The loss of ALDH1L1 has been associated with a selective metabolic advantage for tumor progression, as its re-expression in cancer cells can lead to inhibition of proliferation and apoptosis. This enzyme's activity impacts the availability of one-carbon units necessary for nucleic acid biosynthesis, suggesting that ALDH1L1 silencing may provide a metabolic advantage for cancer cells, particularly during tumor expansion.
