Target Information
Canine endothelin 1 (ET-1) is a potent 21-amino-acid vasoactive peptide that plays a significant role in various physiological and pathological processes in dogs, particularly in the cardiovascular and renal systems. It is primarily produced in vascular endothelial cells and acts as a strong vasoconstrictor, but it is also produced in organs such as the heart and kidney. Elevated levels of ET-1 have been associated with chronic kidney disease and suggested as a biomarker for hypertension in dogs. Additionally, in canine osteosarcoma, ET-1 signaling is active and promotes cellular migration, survival, proliferation, and bone alkaline phosphatase activities, suggesting a protumorigenic role.
