Target Information
Chicken histone H2B (cH2B) is a variant of the core histone protein H2B found in chickens. Histones are essential proteins that play a critical role in the packaging of DNA into the nucleus of cells. As part of the nucleosome, histone H2B, along with H2A, H3, and H4, forms an octameric complex around which DNA wraps, facilitating the compaction of the genetic material. cH2B is involved in the regulation of gene expression, DNA replication, and DNA repair. It has a highly conserved structure among different species, which underscores its importance in these fundamental cellular processes. The N-terminal tail of histone H2B is subject to various post-translational modifications, such as acetylation, methylation, and phosphorylation, which can alter chromatin structure and influence the accessibility of DNA to the cellular machinery.
