Target Information

Porcine myosin heavy chain 1 (MYH1) is a key contractile protein found in muscle tissue, responsible for the generation of force and movement through its interaction with actin filaments. This motor protein is powered by ATP hydrolysis and is central to muscle contraction, non-muscle cell motility, intracellular cargo transport, and cell signaling. MYH1, as part of the myosin superfamily, is composed of a heavy chain that binds to actin and has a catalytic ATPase site, as well as light chains that play stabilizing and regulatory roles. The proper folding and function of MYH1 are essential, and any mutations can lead to diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, making it a significant target for therapeutic intervention. Research has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of MYH1 function, including its ATPase activity and its interaction with actin, which are crucial for muscle performance. The study of MYH1 also involves the development of methods for expressing and purifying the protein to study disease-causing mutations and the effects of potential therapeutic compounds.
