Target Information
Chicken transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a pivotal role in regulating ovarian functions, including follicle development in chickens. It is involved in the complex process of follicle growth by influencing the accumulation and action of collagen, a key extracellular matrix component. TGF-β1 stimulates the secretion of collagen by granulosa cells and its subsequent transfer to neighboring theca cells, which promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis, thereby contributing to follicle development. Additionally, TGF-β1 has been shown to maintain the germ cell cyst reservoir by restraining follicle activation, which involves reduced cell proliferation and steroidogenic enzyme gene expression during early ovarian development. These functions underscore the importance of TGF-β1 in both physiological and pathological conditions in avian species.
