Target Information
Porcine ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase core protein II (pUQCRC2), also known as the Rieske iron-sulfur protein, is a crucial component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This protein plays a pivotal role in the electron transport system, specifically within the cytochrome bc1 complex, which is a key element of the third complex of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. pUQCRC2 facilitates the transfer of electrons from ubiquinol to cytochrome c, a process that is essential for the generation of the proton gradient across the mitochondrial inner membrane. This gradient is the driving force for the production of ATP through oxidative phosphorylation, which is the primary source of cellular energy.
