Target Information
Canine U2AF homology motif kinase 1 (UHMK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that contains the U2AF homology motif, which is a common protein interaction domain among splicing factors. This kinase interacts with splicing factors SF1 and SF3B1, participating in the 3' splice site recognition during the early steps of spliceosome assembly. UHMK1 is also implicated in the regulation of cell cycle through the phosphorylation of p27Kip1, influencing cell cycle progression. Its role in mRNA splicing, cell cycle, cell division, and microtubule organization has been identified through global phosphoproteomics, RNA-seq, and bioinformatics approaches. UHMK1's modulation affects alternative splicing events and has a minor impact on transcript expression, pointing to its function in epithelial-mesenchymal transition.
