Target Information

Porcine E-cadherin is a transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a fundamental role in cell adhesion within the epithelial tissues of pigs. As a member of the cadherin family of calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecules, E-Cadherin is crucial for maintaining tissue architecture and integrity. It forms adherens junctions by homophilic interactions, which means E-cadherin on one cell binds to E-cadherin on an adjacent cell, facilitating strong cell-cell contacts. This protein is particularly important in the development and maintenance of the gastrointestinal tract, where it helps to preserve the barrier function against pathogens and toxins. E-cadherin's role in cell signaling also extends to the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration, making it a key player in both embryonic development and tissue repair processes.
