Target Information

Bovine myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a lysosomal enzyme found in the primary granules of neutrophils, playing a critical role in innate immunity by providing first-line protection against microorganisms in cattle. It is encoded by the MPO gene and is structurally similar to human and canine MPO in terms of amino acid composition and molecular weight. MPO is involved in the defense against microbes and is well-documented for its role in immune response. It is also used as a diagnostic marker for mastitis in dairy cattle, with elevated concentrations of MPO in milk samples correlating with the presence of intramammary infections. The enzyme's activity can be quantified in biological fluids, such as serum, plasma, and milk, making it a significant target for assessing inflammatory diseases and immune function in bovines.
