Target Information
Porcine acyl-coenzyme A oxidase 1 (ACOX1), also known as palmitoyl-CoA oxidase, is a key enzyme involved in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway of fatty acids in pigs. ACOX1 initiates the breakdown of long-chain fatty acids by catalyzing the first step in this process, which is the oxidation of acyl-CoA to trans-2-enoyl-CoA, a crucial reaction that generates hydrogen peroxide as a byproduct. This enzyme plays a vital role in the metabolism of lipids, particularly in the degradation of very long-chain fatty acids. ACOX1 is essential for maintaining energy homeostasis and is highly expressed in tissues with high metabolic rates, such as the liver and kidney.
