Target Information

Porcine CD1A, analogous to the human CD1A molecule, is a member of the CD1 family of antigen-presenting molecules, which are distinct from the classical major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II molecules. CD1A is primarily involved in the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells, particularly natural killer T (NKT) cells, and plays a crucial role in the initiation and regulation of immune responses, particularly against intracellular pathogens and in the context of lipid antigen recognition. As a molecular target, CD1A is significant due to its unique ability to present non-peptide antigens, which is a key aspect of the immune system's response to certain infections and diseases. It has been studied in the context of tuberculosis, certain bacterial infections, and cancer, where lipid antigen presentation by CD1A can influence the activation of immune cells.
