Target Information
Porcine neuron-specific enolase (pNSE) is an isoenzyme of the glycolytic enzyme enolase that is predominantly found in the central and peripheral nervous systems of pigs. It is highly expressed in neurons and is considered a neuron-specific form of the enolase enzyme, which is involved in the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate during glycolysis. pNSE plays a critical role in the energy metabolism of neurons, supporting their high metabolic demands. Due to its specificity for neuronal tissue, pNSE is also used as a biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases and certain types of brain injury. Elevated levels of pNSE in the cerebrospinal fluid or serum can indicate neuronal damage or disease activity.
