Target Information

Chicken procalcitonin (PCT) is a peptide hormone precursor that can be used as an inflammatory biomarker in chickens. It is encoded by the CALCA gene and is produced through tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Procalcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. In chickens, serum procalcitonin levels can be influenced by dietary factors and are associated with inflammatory responses.
