Target Information
The chicken major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC Class I) molecules are integral components of the avian immune system, playing a pivotal role in cell-mediated immunity. These molecules are responsible for presenting endogenous antigens, such as those derived from intracellular pathogens like viruses or certain bacteria, to cytotoxic CD8+ T cells. Each MHC Class I molecule is composed of a heavy chain associated with a peptide and the β2-microglobulin light chain. The unique peptide presented by the MHC Class I molecule, in conjunction with its own specific structure, is recognized by the T cell receptor on CD8+ T cells, initiating an immune response that can lead to the lysis of infected cells.
