Target Information

Interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1 alpha), also known as hematopoietin 1 is a cytokine of the interleukin 1 family encoded by the IL1A gene. IL-1 alpha can stimulate the activity of genes involved in inflammation and immunity. The swine IL-1 alpha cDNA encodes a protein of 270 amino acids with a predicted molecular weight of 30,788. The amino acid sequence exhibits 90%, 82% and 75% similarity with bovine, human and murine IL-1alpha, respectively. IL-1 alpha plays a critical role in protecting the body from foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses.
