Target Information
Canine BCL-2, or B-cell lymphoma 2 in dogs, is a vital anti-apoptotic protein that is integral to the regulation of cell survival within the canine immune system. This member of the BCL-2 family proteins is expressed in a variety of cell types and plays a pivotal role in controlling the cell cycle and preventing unwanted cell death. By blocking the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, Canine BCL-2 inhibits the release of apoptogenic factors such as cytochrome c, thus maintaining cellular homeostasis. The protein's function is particularly important in the context of canine health, as it influences how canine cells respond to various stressors, including infections and malignancies. Abnormalities in BCL-2 expression levels have been linked to a range of diseases in dogs, most notably in lymphoid malignancies where its overexpression can contribute to tumor cell survival and resistance to chemotherapy.
