Target Information

Porcine GNAS complex locus (GNAS) is a crucial gene locus in pigs that encodes for the GNAS protein, which is involved in a variety of cellular functions, including signal transduction, cell proliferation, and hormone secretion. The GNAS locus is complex due to the presence of multiple exons and promoters, which give rise to different transcripts and protein isoforms, such as the stimulatory G protein alpha subunit (Gsα) and the extra-long form XLas. This gene locus is particularly important in the endocrine system, where it plays a role in the regulation of hormones like parathyroid hormone (PTH) and the activation of adenylyl cyclase, an enzyme that generates cyclic AMP, a second messenger crucial for intracellular signaling.
