Target Information
Porcine ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 7 (pABCA7) is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, a large family of proteins that use the energy from ATP hydrolysis to drive the translocation of various substrates across cellular membranes. pABCA7, specifically, is involved in the transport of phospholipids and cholesterol, playing a critical role in lipid homeostasis and the maintenance of cellular membrane integrity in pigs. This protein is particularly important in cells with high cholesterol turnover, such as macrophages, and is implicated in the reverse cholesterol transport pathway, which is essential for the prevention of atherosclerosis. The function of pABCA7 is regulated by various factors, including lipid levels and cellular signaling molecules.
